My name is Melanie Musson and I am an accredited, fully insured counsellor and psychotherapist and have experience in both private practice and the voluntary sector.  I have worked with clients on a wide variety of issues, such as those relating to: stress and anxiety, addictions, depression, relationship problems, eating disorders, chronic illness / pain, loss and bereavement, depression and sexuality.

I currently also supervise other counsellors practicing within both the NHS and private sector. I have previously worked in several universities as both a counsellor and mental health mentor and was a supervisor and senior counsellor at Southampton City Counselling.  I have also been a lecturer and tutor in counselling and psychotherapy for Middlesex University.

 My qualifications include:

  • BA Hons (first class) Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy, Middlesex University

  • BA Hons Psychology, Durham University

  • Diploma in Counselling Supervision, Southampton City College

  • Certificate in Couples Counselling, Southampton City College

  • EMDR Association UK member

As part of my continuing professional development I regularly undertake additional courses or attend workshops which I feel may ultimately deepen my understanding or add to what I am able to offer my clients.  Recently these have included areas such as: eating disorders, self harm, bullying, art therapy, sandtray work and hold certificates in safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults.

I am an accredited member of the BACP, the largest professional body for counsellors and psychotherapist in the UK and adhere to its Code of Ethics.  I am also a member of the Hampshire Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (HACP), EMDR Association UK and the British Association for the Person Centred Approach (BAPCA).

Prior to returning to the UK I lived in several different countries and I now balance my work as a counsellor with raising a family.
